MELANSON, ROGER L. 95, of Jamestown RI, passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Gloria G. (Pinet) Melanson for seventy-two years. Roger was born in Fall River, Massachusetts; he was the son of the late Albert, Sr. and Livia Beatrice Beauregard Melanson. He was the brother of Albert Jr., Gildard Melanson, and Germaine Melanson all now deceased. Roger was a US Navy Veteran serving in WWII on the USS Philadelphia and was a man of many talents, including carpentry, golf, fishing, boating and bringing joy and humor to his family. Roger was an active member of his community in Sterling, Connecticut for many years. He served as a third and fourth degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus as a member of the Sir Knight Assembly 114. He was a lifetime member of the Plainfield Lions Club, the American Legion Post 91 in Moosup, CT and the VFW Post 5446 in Plainfield, CT. In addition to his wife, he leaves two children, Maurice R. Melanson of Marathon, FL and Delores A. Jablonski of Jamestown; a sister, Theresa Bushey of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, Siriann Cuhel, Jayson Melanson, Joel Lynn Thompson, Sarah Kelsey and Lisa Haggerty and their spouses and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10am at St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial with Military Honors will follow in All Hallows Cemetery, Moosup, CT. Visiting hours are Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 4-6pm in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Help Hospitalized Veterans, 36585 Penfield Lane, Winchester, CA 92596, www.hhv.org will be appreciated.
